Privacy Policy
Effective September 26, 2026
This policy explains what Kuchisabishii (a product of Aeternum Corp — "we," "us") collects about you, why, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted. It applies whether you reach us through this website, the taste-profile quiz, or the app. Kuchisabishii is operated for users in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and this policy is written against Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
The taste-profile quiz
Taking the quiz on this site creates a temporary, anonymous session — no email, no password, nothing that identifies you. What you rate during the quiz is stored against that anonymous session the same way it would be for any account, so that if you choose to sign up afterward, nothing is lost and you don't have to repeat it. If you never sign up, that anonymous session is never linked to any identifying information and cannot be connected back to you.
We also ask, right after your result, whether it felt accurate. That answer is logged (along with a snapshot of the profile we showed you) so we can measure and improve how well the matching actually works — it is not shown to any other user and is not used to change what is recommended to you specifically.
What we collect, and why
Account information — your email address and authentication identity, kept for the life of your account, so you can sign in and so we can reach you about your account.
Allergens. If you tell us what you're allergic to, we use it as a hard filter to keep those dishes out of your recommendations and search results. This is health-adjacent information and we treat it that way: it is never shown to any other user, and it exists solely to run that filter.
Dietary patterns (such as halal, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, or "I fast periodically," plus an optional daily time window). We ask about the pattern and act on it — we do not ask why, and we do not record religious belief or any other reason behind it.
Taste ratings and your flavour profile. What you rate, and a set of numbers we derive from it describing what flavours and cuisines you tend to enjoy. This is the core of how the Service works: we retain and use this data for as long as your account exists specifically to power the matching and recommendations you come to Kuchisabishii for, and — in aggregate or de-identified form — to improve the matching system for everyone.
Private notes. If you write yourself a note about a dish (what to order again, what to avoid), that text is visible only to you. It is never shown to anyone else, including other users you may be matched with, and it is never used to generate recommendations for anyone.
Region or city. Used to determine whether Kuchisabishii currently operates where you are.
Precise location, only if you choose to share it, asked for separately from the basic region setting and never required. We keep at most one current location per account — never a history of past locations — and we stop using it for anything after 30 days even though the record isn't immediately deleted. You can delete it at any time in the app, as easily as you gave it.
Ratings and reviews are public
Unlike your allergens, notes, and precise location, your dish ratings are public and attributable to your account — other users can see what you rated and how. This is a deliberate design choice: it's what lets us show you how many people who taste like you liked a dish.
Worth understanding plainly: a pattern in your public ratings can reveal things you never told us directly. Consistently avoiding a common allergen, or dishes containing alcohol or pork, can suggest a health condition or a religious practice even though we never asked about either. If that matters to you, the private note field — never published, ever — is where anything you don't want inferred should stay unrated or left unrecorded.
You can delete any individual rating at any time, which removes it from public view.
Dish and allergen data is not verified
Dish information — including allergen lists — comes from our own seeding process, from restaurants, or from other users. We do not independently verify any of it. Where we don't have complete ingredient information for a dish and you've told us about an allergy, we flag it as "Unverified" rather than hiding it. Always confirm allergen and ingredient information directly with the restaurant before ordering. Nothing in the Service is a substitute for that.
How long we keep things
Most of what's listed above is kept for as long as your account exists, and used to provide and improve the Service — that is the whole reason we ask for it. Precise location is the exception: we stop relying on it after 30 days regardless. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, ratings, private notes, taste profile, restrictions, and location — this has been tested specifically to confirm nothing is left behind, including your private notes.
One thing survives account deletion in a limited form: if you ever told us you wanted Kuchisabishii to open in a city we don't yet serve, that interest is counted toward a running total for that city. The count itself is anonymous once your account is deleted — it holds no reference to you, your name, or any coordinates, and cannot be traced back to any individual. We may also retain de-identified or aggregated information derived from your activity (for example, as part of the overall signal used to train the matching system) where it no longer identifies you, to the extent permitted by law.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell your personal information. Your data is processed and stored using Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage) and Vercel (web hosting). Sign-in may go through Google or Apple if you choose those options, in which case they process what's needed to authenticate you, under their own privacy policies.
If you look up an address while setting your location, that address is sent to Google to resolve it to a region — we keep only the resulting region, never the address itself or any coordinates derived from it.
Asking Kuchi to filter your feed
If you type a request to Kuchi instead of tapping filters directly (for example, "something with peanuts nowhere near it" or "quick lunch, not too spicy"), that text is sent to Google's Gemini API to turn it into filters. We are currently using Google's free tier for this, which means Google may use what you type — and Gemini's response — to improve their own products, and a human reviewer may look at it. Google's paid tier doesn't do this; we may switch to it later.
Because of that, please don't tell Kuchi anything you wouldn't want a third party to see — a specific medical condition, someone else's name, or a religious practice, for instance. We don't store what you type, but we can't control what Google does with it once it's sent. Everything Kuchi can do, you can also do by tapping filters directly, which never leaves our own systems.
Two other assistive features — suggesting how to describe a dish you're adding, and an onboarding help chat — send relevant text to Anthropic's Claude API under a similar arrangement.
Marketing emails
We only send promotional email (like "your city just opened") if you explicitly opt in. That choice defaults to off, is never bundled with anything else you agree to, and you can withdraw it at any time by writing to info@kuchisabishii.io or using the toggle in the app.
Your rights
You can review and correct your taste profile at any time in the app. You can delete individual ratings, your precise location, or your entire account whenever you like. If you'd like a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or have any other question about your data, write to info@kuchisabishii.io and we'll respond.
Children
Kuchisabishii is not directed at, and is not intended to be used by, children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll ask account holders to review and accept the new version before they can keep using the app — previous acceptance stays on record against the version of the text actually shown.
